Overview: SWAP! is a card game for 2-10 players in the vein of UNO. It is recommended for players ages seven and up. The goal is simple: be the first player to ditch all your cards.

Starting the Game: Shuffle the deck and deal each player 10 cards. Put the remaining cards face down in the center of the table, creating the draw pile. Flip over the top card from the draw pile and place it face up on the table about a foot away from the draw pile. This is your discard pile. If the card flipped over is a SWAP! card, the dealer chooses a color for it to represent. If the starting card is a SUPERSWAP, SLAP, or SWITCH COLOR card, ignore the special rules for those cards and only pay attention to the color of the card.

PLAY: The player to the left of the dealer begins the game, and play continues clockwise. You may only play a card that matches the color of the top card on the discard pile, a SWAP card, or a CHANGE COLOR card.

Players play one card from their hand to the discard pile on their turn. If the card has special rules (explained below) follow them. Once you’ve played a card, your turn is over.

If have no legal plays from your hand, you must draw a card from the discard pile. If the card you draw is playable, play it immediately and end your turn. If the drawn card is not playable, keep it in your hand and end your turn.

SWAP: These cards are wild and can be played on any color. When you play a SWAP! Card, you choose a player to swap hands with, and you also designate a new color for the discard pile (or choose to keep it the same color that It was previously). You may play a SWAP on top of another SWAP.

SUPER SWAP : These cards must be played on their matching color. When a SUPER SWAP is played, every player passes their hand to the player to the immediate left or right—as the one playing the SUPER SWAP, you determine which order the pass goes, left or right, and all players pass in that direction. You may play a SUPER SWAP on top of another SUPER SWAP if they match colors.

SWITCH COLOR: These cards must be played onto their matching color, but you must choose a new color for the discard pile. SWITCH COLOR may be played on top of another SWITCH COLOR if it matches the color of the designated color (not the original color of the card).

SLAP: These cards must be played onto their matching color. When you play a SLAP card, all other players must quickly slap the discard pile (watch your fingers!). The last player to slap the discard pile must draw a card at random from your hand.

Winning: The first player to have zero cards in their hand is the winner. Once the last card is played from a player’s hand, do not follow any associated action. The game ends.

Alternate Rules: Slapping out of turn—If a player slaps a card that is not a SLAP card, you can add a penalty, such as drawing a card from the discard pile or losing a turn. If you want to make the game more interesting, you could have the rogue slapper contribute .25 to a prize pot, or simply have them give you any candy or gum in their pockets. If you are really heartless, you could even force them to give up the last cheese doodle–godspeed little doodle.

SWAP: When a player plays a swap card, try switching seats instead of just hands.
