Black/Red/White Control:
June 1st was a good day for rogue decks in the Standard daily, with four decks that aren’t always on top showing up in a 3-1 or 4-0 slot.
Here’s one such deck that went 3-1:
Main Deck
4 [mtg_card]Blood Crypt[/mtg_card]
4 [mtg_card]Clifftop Retreat[/mtg_card]
4 [mtg_card]Dragonskull Summit[/mtg_card]

4 [mtg_card]Isolated Chapel[/mtg_card]
3 [mtg_card]Sacred Foundry[/mtg_card]
3 [mtg_card]Vault of the Archangel[/mtg_card]

3 [mtg_card]Underworld Connections[/mtg_card]
3 [mtg_card]Warleader’s Helix[/mtg_card]
Sideboard
4 [mtg_card]Duress[/mtg_card]
3 [mtg_card]Oblivion Ring[/mtg_card]
3 [mtg_card]Rest in Peace[/mtg_card]
3 [mtg_card]Slaughter Games[/mtg_card]
1 [mtg_card]Tribute to Hunger[/mtg_card]
1 [mtg_card]Warleader’s Helix[/mtg_card]
This deck isn’t that different than some of the Red/Black/White control that’s been floating around. But note some interesting additions: First, this deck is running 3x [mtg_card]Terminus[/mtg_card] (see I told you it was good), as well as 3x [mtg_card]Underworld Connections[/mtg_card]. What is interesting about these cards together is that you can delay using the Underworld Connection until your opponent’s turn when you are in need of a Terminus, giving you a chance to miracle the card on their turn. Additionally, the deck runs two [mtg_card]Staff of Nin[/mtg_card], which I sometimes use in Mono-Black control, but think that it may be questionable considering that [mtg_card]Putrefy[/mtg_card] is not terribly uncommon. Other than those additions, there isn’t a ton different with this deck, but I do like the changes that I see here, and I like seeing two copies of [mtg_card]Assemble the Legion[/mtg_card] instead of one. Now, if they really wanted to be feisty, they could toss in 1 [mtg_card]Descent into Madness[/mtg_card] to combo with the Assemble the Legion, leaving their opponent exiling cards and permanents while they only exile tokens. The only other thing that was perhaps a little different than normal was the addition of 3 [mtg_card]Vault of the Archangel[/mtg_card]. I don’t know that 3 are needed, to be honest, but I understand that the deck wants to ensure that it has sustain to get it through the early aggro decks in the field.
Overall I like the deck, and will eventually build some version of it myself. Nice job nofxdarkside2.
