Smart Ass Board Game Rules: How Do You Play Smart Ass?

Overview

Guess who, where, or what in this arena of smarts and asses.

Game type: Verbal, competitive

Number of players: 2-6

Suggested age: 12+

Game Pieces

Game board, 411 question cards, 6 playing pieces and stand, jumbo category die, jumbo movement die.

Pregame Setup

Separate the deck into “What am I?”, “Where am I?”, “Who am I?”, and “Hard ass” piles and place them in their respective corners.

Each player chooses a plastic stand, inserts their smart ass playing piece, and then places it on the start position.

Oldest player is first and becomes the “reader”.

Playing the Game

Reader rolls the jumbo category die and then reads the card determined by their roll. Jumbo category die has 3 colors, blue is “What am I?”, green is “Where am I?”, and orange is “Who am I?”

The card will have 8 clues, the reader is to read off each clue in order. The other players are to guess the answer the clues elude to. Each player gets only 1 guess but may guess whenever they want and do not have to wait for the reader to finish reading.

If no player guesses the correct answer then the reader wins the round. The winner of that round then rolls the jumbo movement die, and moves their playing piece forward on the board the number of spaces indicated on the die. Turns pass to the left.

If the player lands on a “dumb ass” square on the board, then that player is silenced for the next card. They must sit out until the round after the next. If it was that players turn to read the next card then that players turn to read that card is skipped, the turn passes to their left. If you are playing a 2 player game, then the other player wins a free movement roll.

If the player lands on a “hard ass” square then the reader selects a bonus question from the hard ass category. Only the player that landed on the hard ass square can answer, and if they are correct, then they may roll the jumbo movement die again and move their piece forward. If they guess incorrectly then the turn passes to their left and game resumes as normal.

When all of the top questions of the “hard ass” card are read then continue playing with the bottom questions.

If the player lands on a “kick ass” square, then that player must move back 3 spaces.

If there is a dispute about who answered correctly first then the reader decides who moves forward. If the reader cannot decide then the reader selects a tie-breaker question from the hard ass category. Only the tied players may answer. The player that says the correct answer first then rolls the jumbo movement die and moves their playing piece forward. If none of the tied players answered the hard ass question correctly then the reader wins, can roll the jumbo movement die, and move their piece forward.

Winning the Game

You may declare the ultimate smart ass when the first player lands on the “the end” square. That player wins a game and an exact roll is not required.
