Phase 10 twist is an adaption on the game phase 10. In many respects the same game with an added twist, a new board and some extra cards. All this brings new fun and excitement to an old game. The game can take up to an hour to play and is suitable for older children and adults. It is an engrossing game and ideal for families.
Set up
In order to set up the game place the board in the center of the table. Now separate the phase 10 cards from the reference cards and put them around the game board for everyone to see. Now put the twist phase 10 cards in the specially provided holder and put the holder in the center of the board. Place the phase 10 twist rules book somewhere where all players can find it if it is required.
Playing the game
According to the Phase 10 twist rules deal 10 cards to each player face down. The cards are in different colors and numbered. The idea is to collect cards in groups of the same color or number or both. The remaining cards go in the center of the board face down.
Now turn over the top three cards and put each of them in the other sections, thus creating three displaced piles.
Starting
The Phase 10 twist rules say the game begins with the player on the left side of the dealer. The player takes a card from any pile on the board. On every turn the player wants to collect a sequence of cards that is next in order. The player starts on Phase 1 and slowly moves through to Phase 10, that’s nine cards of a single color. The player must complete the phases in order. The player that goes through all ten phases is the winner.
Playing
Ending a turn happens when a player lays down cards with a completed phase or to discard a card. When the player’s phase is put down they may play on other phase piles of the same type to get rid of unwanted cards.
After each hand the player may move their tokens and must play the next round for the phase landed on the next round. The player with no cards moves three places along the board. Players laying down a phase will move only two places and one place if no phases down.
When a player lands on a twist place, they can choose to draw the phase and will play next from the twist deck. The player can also play a phase on a space either side of the twist place. The movements on the board are doubled for that hand. If the player does not lay down the needed phase in that hand, they must go one place backward. The game finishes when the first player has passed phase 10.
